BROADWATER - The Sheriff of Broadwater County, Brenda Ludwig, has confirmed that search parties have recovered the body of Gordon McGaw, the hunter who was reported missing on Thursday.
McGaw was found about 1000 yards from his vehicle, north of Winston, in the Block Management hunting area.
The circumstances and cause of death are being investigated and pending an autopsy by state medical examiners, said Ludwig.
Friends and family were notified after a search party located the 52-year-old's body Friday afternoon.
McGaw had left his home Wednesday at around 6:30 a.m. for a hunting trip.
Sheriff Ludwig said that her heart goes out to McGaw's family and friends.
The search parties consisted of mutual aid between Broadwater and Jefferson Counties, U.S. Forest Service, and Montana Highway Patrol.
Ludwig said that the family reported the location of his car on Thursday, but that they first searched in areas that family believed McGaw would be hunting.
She also indicated that McGaw sometimes hunted alone.
