BOZEMAN - A Bozeman man is behind bars accused of stabbing a female relative with a knife.

Alexander Sawicki, 44, is charged with assault with a weapon, a felony.

Just before 9 p.m. Tuesday night, a Gallatin County sheriff's deputy was called to a Bozeman residence for a reported stabbing. When the deputy got to the house, he found Sawicki sitting on the front steps. When the deputy asked Sawicki why he was called there, Sawicki said he was arguing with the victim and admitted to stabbing her in the leg with a knife, according to court documents.

Several knives were found inside and outside the residence. One appeared to have blood on the tip of it.

The victim had two stab wounds - one in the right leg and one in the side. She said Sawicki had stabbed her and she was afraid of him, court documents state. She was taken to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.

Alcohol was involved in the incident, Deputy County Attorney Shannon Foley said.

Sawicki appeared before Judge Rick West in Gallatin County Justice Court this morning via video from the detention center. His bail was set at $50,000.

A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 16.
