BOZEMAN - A man shot and killed himself after nearly colliding with a police patrol car in Bozeman early this morning.
At around 1:26 a.m., a Bozeman police officer tried to stop a Jeep Wrangler near West Main Street and 5th Avenue that was speeding, according to police. The Jeep failed to stop for a red light and collided with the officer's patrol car.
The Jeep stopped in the middle of the 400 block of West Main Street and the driver got out with a handgun held to his head.
After a brief interaction with police, the man shot himself in the head, police said. He was taken to the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital by ambulance but did not survive.
Bozeman police and the Gallatin County coroner are investigating. The man's identity is expected to be released later. The man is believed to be in his early 20s.
