The Billings Police Department has made an arrest in connection to a series of sexual assaults in Billings dating back to May of this year.
The Billings Police Department said the suspect, now in custody, is Toby Eugene Griego, a 41-year-old Billings man.
Griego has been charged with two of the six assaults currently being investigated by Billings Police.
Griego is a convicted sexual offender with convictions in New Mexico.
We will update you with new information as it becomes available.
(UPDATE, 1:10 p.m.)
Griego, 41, has been charged with assaults that took place on May 27th and July 2nd.
Police said that he is also the "leading suspect" in four other assaults still being investigated.
Griego was arrested on Friday - the result of a tip that came in to the Billings Police Department earlier this month.
Billings Police Chief Rich St. John said, "Detectives received a CrimeStoppers tip that identified Griego as a person of interest. That interest turned into focus when it was learned that Griego was a convicted violent sex offender from New Mexico."
In New Mexico, Griego was convicted of sexual intercourse without consent in at least one crime that Yellowstone County Attorney Scott
Twito said was very similar in terms of details when compared to the crimes he's accused of committing in Billings.
Griego faces charges on 29 counts, including sexual intercourse without consent, robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault, and possession of dangerous drugs.
Griego had been held in the Yellowstone County Detention Center as recently as August 21st on unrelated charges.
