POLSON - A Browning man, accused of fatally stabbing a Polson man, pleaded not guilty in Lake County District Court on Wednesday morning.
Makueeyapeh Whitford is charged with deliberate homicide in the death of John Pierre, 26, who was stabbed at a house party in Polson on March 16. Whitford's trial is set for August.
Prosecutors say Pierre was speaking with two people sitting in a car near the house, listening to music, and at some point, Whitford allegedly came up and stabbed him once in the chest with a folding knife. Whitford then reportedly left in a car, but not before one of the witnesses at the party slashed one of his tires with a knife.
Investigators say Pierre died at St. Joseph Medical Center in Polson from a single stab wound to the upper chest.
Police found Whitford at a Polson motel shortly after the stabbing, and that's where they also reportedly found a knife with blood on it.
Witnesses told officers that Whitford was hostile toward other people at the party earlier in the night and investigators don't believe Pierre and Whitford knew each other before the stabbing.
