BUTTE - A Butte man is accused of impersonating a public servant and nearly running a vehicle off the interstate while under the influence of alcohol.
James Richards, 47, was arrested Tuesday evening east of Ramsay after people called 911, reporting that a man had pulled them over, claiming to be a Montana Drug Task Force agent. The caller said the man nearly ran their vehicle off the road. Richards reportedly claimed to be an agent and asked them to get out of their vehicle, but they refused.
The people fled and called 911.
Richards was found in the area and reportedly confessed to pulling over the vehicle. Authorities also suspected he was under the influence of alcohol.
Richards was arrested for his second offense, misdemeanor DUI. He is also charged with impersonating a public servant, a felony.
