A Butte man was given a 10-year sentence with five years suspended for causing a fatal crash that killed a motorist in 2012.
J.R. Hollingsworth, 67, will serve that time with the Montana Department of Corrections for his guilty plea to negligent homicide. District Judge Kurt Krueger rejected the recommendation that Hollingsworth serve his time in a pre-release center claiming Hollingsworth showed no remorse for his actions.
Hollingsworth killed 74-year-old Forrest Felton when the pickup he was driving slammed into Felton's car the evening of Aug. 23, 2012 on Harrison Avenue at Roosevelt. Hollingsworth was racing with another vehicle and texting at the time of the crash.
Hollingsworth was taken into custody after the hearing Thursday.
