Incumbent Sheriff John Walsh says he lives to makes make the community of Butte Silver Bow a safer place. He has been sheriff for three terms.
"I really, really, enjoy what I do, in fact I love what I do. I love the people that I work for in this community I love the people that work for me. My officers, my civilian employees, I really just have a love for the people of this community," says Walsh.
John Walsh is running for his fourth term as Butte Silver Bow Sheriff
Born and raised in Butte, he has been in law enforcement for close to 40 years.
"I just love the ability to try and make our community safer. That's been my goal from the beginning," he says.
During his time as Sheriff he has increased the education and training his officers receive, standardized their weaponry and most recently updated their 911 technology.
Walsh says he developed a traffic unit 10 years ago. "There was a lot of issues in our community as far as traffic crashes and such. Since that has been instituted we find that there has been a reduction across the board in crashes through our community."
Continually supporting the DUI task force and fighting the war on drugs.
It all boils down to safety.
"The safety of each one of these citizens is the utmost of my concern. I mean I have family here I want them to be safe. I want everyone's family to be safe here. I don't want anybody to have to be a victim of crime," adds Walsh.
He says he will continue to be a leader.
"I can't always solve the problems, But I will do everything in my power to make it better. The best predictor of future performance is past performance, and I think I have done a very good job."
If Walsh is elected he plans to organize a citizens police academy.
He would invited the citizens of Butte Silver Bow to come and learn from his officers about law enforcement in Butte.
