On Saturday night Montana Highway Patrol responded to a call regarding a vehicle that had gone through the ice on Hauser Lake.
Two men from Helena had left a bonfire out on the lake and drove a Subaru Impreza across the ice near the docks by the Lakeside On Hauser bar.
The car went through the ice and the two men managed to roll down the windows as it was going under water.
Neither man sustained any injuries.
MHP tells us that no citations have been issued at this time, but that alcohol may have been a factor.
The vehicle was removed from the lake on Sunday around noon.
MHP Trooper Joe Cohenour said that vehicles have to follow the same traffic rules on the ice as on the road.
He said while there are no specific regulations for vehicles on the ice, there should be a foot to a foot-and-a-half of ice to safely drive on it.
The owner of the vehicle, Jon Brownlee, was in the passenger seat. The vehicle's registration was expired and the car was not insured, according to Cohenour.
The driver's name was Chris Lamping.
Both men are in their mid-late-20's.
