MISSOULA - A pair of out-of-state bus companies are stepping in to help restore some bus service in Montana after safety violations shut down Billings-based Rimrock Stages.
Minnesota-based Jefferson Lines has started running one round trip from Billings through Butte, to Missoula. Meanwhile, Idaho-based Salt Lake Express hopes to start two more round trips between Billings and Missoula by Friday.
There's currently no bus service from Missoula through Kalispell and Whitefish, and that route will be the most difficult to reestablish, but Dan Ronan with the ABA say Rimrock Stages intends to get back in business.
"They're planning to redouble their safety efforts and make some improvements, and we've been actually helping them as an association, so they're actively involved in trying to get their safety systems taken care of and get the company back on the road," he explained.
But, officials don't know how long it would take for Rimrock Stages to submit an application in order to get back up and running.
