BOZEMAN- A 21-year old Bozeman man is in the hospital after he was injured while back country skiing Sunday.
Multiple agencies from around Gallatin County responded to the Hyalite canyon just after 2 p.m.
The skier had fallen into some rocks several hundred feet below the summit of Blackmore peak. He suffered broken ribs and also injured his back and hip.
The victim was skiing with four other companions when the accident occurred. A partner was able to contact the Gallatin County Dispatch Center to report the incident.
Rescuers were helicoptered to the top of Blackmore peak which stands at over 10,000 feet in elevation. Crews then skied down to the victim, stabilized him and roped him down to a landing pad. The victim was transported via helicopter to an ambulance and taken to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.
His condition at this time is unknown.
