BOZEMAN - A storm that slammed southwest Montana Thursday afternoon is believed to have caused millions of dollars of damage to Gallatin County crops.
In Gallatin County, the storm hit the areas of Belgrade, Three Forks and Manhattan the hardest.
Matt Flikkema, vice president of the Montana Grain Growers Association, estimates that millions of dollars in damage was done by hail last night.
"I have never in my life seen this kind of widespread crop devastation in the Gallatin Valley. I grew up here and I've never seen anything like this," Flikkema said. "This is such a huge loss for the county."
Flikkema says that Thursday's storm may have been more damaging than one the area experienced in 2010.
"It hit the whole valley. The area that is damaged is so huge," he said.
We are riding along with Flikkema today to observe the damage. We will bring you more information on this story as it develops.
