DEER LODGE - The sudden loss of two wellknown Deer Lodge community members over the weekend has shocked the small town.
Residents held a candlelight vigil on Wednesday evening to honor their memory and support one another.
Close to 100 Deer Lodge residents gathered to remember Rosie Hertel and Tina Schowengerdt. Schowengerdt ran the MRC gas station in town and was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband on Saturday night.
Dennis Schowengerdt, 65, turned himself in for her murder Sunday and told authorities, "I didn't even feel bad about it."
Hertel was a junior high guidance counselor who unexpectedly died from a heart aneurysm on Friday.
Residents say both women were one-of-a-kind, and that they will be missed.
