A dispute over a utility bill may have triggered an incident that landed one man in the hospital with a gunshot wound on Thursday afternoon, according to Butte-Silver Bow officials.
Police have talked to both men involved in the shooting in the 3600 block of S. Oregon Ave., but both men tell a different story, Sheriff John Walsh said Friday. The man who was shot in the right shoulder claims he followed the other man to a residence in the area, knocked on the door and when the man inside opened it, he shot him. However, the person of interest in the case claims the man forced his way inside the residence and that's when he shot him.
The man who was shot was taken to the hospital. His injuries are non-life threatening, police said. The weapon is believed to be a rifle.
No arrest has been made in the case.
Police are now working out the details of what exactly happened at the residence at around 2:45 p.m. Thursday. They did say, however, that they believe it began with a dispute over a utility bill.
We will bring you more details on this story as it develops.
