On Friday, the Montana Department of Justice and the Great Falls Police Department announced the result of a joint operation this week to locate unregistered sexual or violent offenders.
A press release from the DOJ says that there are currently 521 active registered sex and violent offenders in Great Falls.
Ninety non-compliant sex and violent offenders had failed to return their address verification letters; of them, 18 were sex offenders and 72 were violent offenders.
The joint law enforcement operation resulted in 52 offenders being located and brought into compliance.
One sex offender was arrested for failure to register; two more offenders are being sought on non-related warrants and will be investigated for being non-compliant and could face additional charges for their failure to register.
Bryan Lockerby, administrator of the Division of Criminal Investigation at the MT DOJ said, "These compliance checks will continue and citizens are encouraged to check the Montana Department of Justice Sex and Violent Offender website. If individuals know of an offender who lives in their neighborhood and is listed as non-compliant, they are encouraged to report that information to local law enforcement."
