State and National Forest officials say controlled burns will be starting soon even though we're having another dry spring.
The Madison Ranger District in Ennis says people may see smoke columns from the middle of this month through mid-June but shouldn't be alarmed.
Private property controlled burning is already underway, and fire officials are urging caution. They remind property owners not to set more on fire than you can control.
Always be at the site when burning. Always have ready a way to extinguish the fire. This could be a water truck, hose, or disc set. Always create a buffer that is clear of vegetation around the burn. Think twice about burning is it is windy or expected to get windy. Also, have a quick way to call 911 if the fire gets out of control.
