The number of DUIs issued in Butte-Silver Bow County this December is nearly half as many as were issued last year, according to law enforcement.

In December 2011, the Butte-Silver Bow Police Department issued 30 DUIs. This holiday season authorities issued 17 DUIs.

Nearly a month ago law enforcement announced that the Butte-Silver Bow County's DUI rate is down. The number of DUIs issued for Butte-Silver Bow County decreased by nearly 50 citations compared to last year.

Law enforcement said they are seeing the decrease because of the 24/7 Program, educating youth, and simply because people are being responsible.

Law enforcement will have increased patrols through the New Year.
