BOZEMAN - Exhibition games are all about getting better, and while Montana State head coach Tricia Binford saw more steps backwards then forwards, she was pleased by the effort of senior guard Latisha Adams.
Adams finished with a game-high 14 points, while adding seven rebounds, five steals, three blocks and two assists to lift the Bobcats to a 63-47 exhibition win over Minot State, Sunday afternoon in Worthington Arena.
"I thought Tish (Adams) played well and did a nice job with her shot selection," Binford said. "However, I thought we took a step backwards in a lot of areas. We practiced all week on our communication in transition and spacing, and we talked about our shot selection. We fell short in all those areas."
Montana State used a 13-3 run midway through the opening period to take a 30-16 advantage at the 4:26 mark following a pair of Jasmine Hommes free throws. MSU's run was sparked by a Kalli Durham three-pointer and a five-of-six effort from the line. The Bocbats entered intermission with a 34-26 lead.
"We need to be more mature," Binford said. "We have to be in the mindset of finding the best shot for the team, without losing confidence and trust in taking what's available. It's a fine line."
In the second stanza, MSU took its largest lead of the game at 61-43 with 7:09 remaining on Durham's third triple of the contest. Neither team could buy a bucket down the stretch as the Bobcats hit just one field goal, while Minot State converted two baskets in the final seven minutes of the contest.
Sophomore Jackie Elliott matched Adams with a game-high 14 points, including an eight-of-10 effort from the free throw line. Also in double-figures for Montana State was Durham with 11 points.
For the game, the Bobcats shot 34 percent from the field and held a 48-33 advantage under the boards. Senior Rachel Semansky pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for MSU.
Minot State was paced by Carly Boag with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Montana State will open its regular-season at Colorado State next Sunday.
