HAMILTON - A fire causes $50,000 to $75,000 worth of smoke damage to a Bitterroot shelter.
Hamilton Fire Chief Brad Mohn says the fire started around 5 p.m. at the S.A.F.E. shelter in Hamilton.
He says a discarded cigarette ignited some bark landscaping on the property and the wind blew it into the crawlspace.
Luckily, the fire was contained to the crawlspace and didn't travel to the living quarters, so no one was injured.
