A type 3 incident management team is taking over a forest fire west of the Pioneer Mountains.
The Kelly Fire started Thursday afternoon, according to Leona Rodreick, with the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest Service.
The Kelly Fire has burned 20 acres, Rodreick said. The fire is inaccessible and firefighters have not been sent in. The vegetation is overcrowded with beetle-kill timber and the terrain is difficult.
There are few safety zones in the area that the fire is burning. Officials do not want to put firefighters at risk. A helicopter is dumping water on the fire to cool it down, Rodreick said.
The Kelly Fire was caused by lightning.
