The Forest Service has some tips to help keep your property fire free this season.
The idea is to set up a perimeter around structures like homes and detached garages.
Using water sprinklers is a good strategy to build a solid defensible space.
Getting rid of fuels like dead, dry grass is also essential.
Long grasses are considered as ladder fuels, which could carry a fire from the ground level up into trees.
"In the timber, in the woods, make sure you do have something like these folks do," Justin Anderson, a structure group trainee. "They already have sprinklers set up and are pretty prepared for what might happen."
