EAST OF BILLINGS - The body of a man was discovered in the Yellowstone River Wednesday morning, encased in ice, along the shore of Coulson Park.
The victim is a white male, possibly in his 40s, said Sheriff Mike Linder.
The body was spotted by a local resident shortly after 11 a.m. The man was recovered from the river and taken directly to the morgue, where Linder says it may take a couple days before the body thaws out.
Investigators with the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office are trying to determine how and when the middle-aged man ended up in the Yellowstone River.
The body has not been identified and it is unknown if foul play was a factor. Until an autopsy is conducted, Linder said information about the victim will be limited.
