HELENA - Today is Montana Statehood Day and as part of a celebration, students from the Bozeman area honored their teacher at the Capitol.
Cyndie Deurmeier, a Gallatin Gateway teacher, received the Montana History Teacher of the Year award. The award is part of the 23rd annual Centennial Bell Celebration.
Deurmeier and her middle school students rang the Centennial Bell in honor of the anniversary of Montana's statehood.
She won the award because she has combined the rich history of Native American customs and culture into her content areas.
As part of the award, the Montana Television Network is giving Deurmeier $1,000. We have been a sponsor of this event for many years and it's an honor to be able to recognize talented teachers.
