BILLINGS - One man died when a helicopter he was piloting crashed north of Shepherd on Saturday morning.
According to the Shepherd Volunteer Fire Department, the crash happened at around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday off of CA Road near Lambert Trail Road near the high tension power lines outside of Shepherd.
At this time there is no word on whether the power lines played a role in the helicopter crash.
The Shepherd Volunteer Fire Department said it fought a fire at the crash site before handing the investigation of the fire over to the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office.
The name of the pilot has not yet been released; no one else is reported to have been on board.
