GREAT FALLS - Bryan Herman was given a six-year deferred sentence for sexually abusing a young girl for years.
The military service member was charged last spring with sexual intercourse without consent.
Herman appeared in front of Judge Macek on Wednesday afternoon.
Court documents say that Herman sexually abused the girl from the time she was 6 until she was 10 years old.
The victim reported the incidents when she was 16.
Herman must complete six years of probation and pay $3,000 for the victim's counseling fees.
Macek says she chose to move ahead with the joint plea agreement because the victim agreed to it.
(May 2, 2012) Bryan Herman of Cascade County has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing a child.
Herman is charged with five counts of sexual intercourse without consent and felony assault with a weapon.
Court documents state that Herman has sexually abused the girl since she was six years old, and the most recent incident happened when she was 10.
The victim, who is now 16, reported the incidents to the authorities in December.
She told police that she had been raped on several occasions and that Herman threatened her if she told anyone.
Charging documents state that Herman allegedly cut the victim's breast several times with a knife in an attempt to find out if she had told authorities about the ongoing sexual abuse.
Herman reportedly returned from a military deployment in January.
