A 20-year-old homeless man is sentenced to ten years at the Montana Department of Corrections for tampering with physical evidence in a homicide case more than a year ago.
David Patrick Newbold was arrested in October 2011 in connection with the murder of Teddy James Hildebrandt from Anaconda, according to court documents.
Hildebrandt's body was found north of the Butte Civic Center. He suffered blunt force injuries to the head.
Another homeless man, Shane Hans, was charged with the murder in May.
Newbold knew the victim personally. One of the victim's family members came forward in the court room Thursday morning. Terry Hildebrandt, the victim's aunt, thanked Newbold for letting the family know exactly what happened the night of the murder.
"That gave us closure, because without that we would have never known anything," she said. "So I just want to let the court know how much the family appreciates that part."
Newbold is sentenced to ten years with five suspended.
