MULLAN, ID - Kootenai County, Idaho authorities are trying to piece together what happened when an Idaho State trooper shot and killed a suspect during a traffic stop on Lookout Pass Wednesday afternoon.
KREM TV is reporting the shooting took place about a mile west of the summit, which is also the Montana-Idaho border.
Initial reports are that the confrontation started around noon when the trooper tried to stop the suspect's car along eastbound Interstate 90 near milepost 73. The trooper shot the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene. There was no initial word on whether the suspect had been armed, or whether threats had been made.
One lane of the freeway remained closed around the shooting scene.
