MISSOULA - Jason Washington will spend two years in federal prison in connection to his former medical marijuana business.
In January a Missoula jury found Washington guilty of "conspiracy to manufacture and distribute marijuana" and "possession with intent to distribute marijuana."
These charges are in connection to Washington's former medical marijuana business Big Sky Health that was raided by federal agents in November of 2011.
During the Wednesday afternoon sentencing hearing, the judge told Washington that it bothered him to see that Washington was more concerned about his business than his medical marijuana patients.
He also said even though Washington tried to follow state law, he often walked a fine line and sometimes crossed it. Prosecutors say Washington sold marijuana to people who were not patients and he also sold the drug to other caregivers, which is illegal under state law.
After he serves his prison sentence, Washington will be on supervised release for four years.
Washington was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals right after the sentencing.
