The East Coast is reeling from the effects of Superstorm Sandy and our weekend newscast director is right in the thick of things.

Robert Schneeweis is stranded in New York. We spoke with him earlier today, once he regained cell service.
Robert was on Long Island for his grandmother's 112th birthday. He was evacuated from his hotel in Rockville Center Long Island around midnight Monday, Oct. 29, because the hotel basement was flooded. He's now staying in a Red Cross shelter waiting to get a flight back to Bozeman.

"I had a flight scheduled, hoping for Friday, see what happens," he said.

Robert tells us no one has power where he is. As of this morning, 8 million people had lost power and cell service is spotty.

Thirty nine people died in the United States from the storm, many from falling trees. In the Caribbean, 69 people died.

Over two feet of snow fell in some parts of West Virginia and Maryland.
