A Bozeman man is charged with burglary after allegedly stealing $1,000 cash from his former employer.
Cody Michael West, 20, is accused of breaking into a business on South Willson Avenue on June 29. According to Gallatin County Justice court documents, West and a friend entered the commercial building and walked out with a safe around 4:30 a.m. The business was locked, but as a former employee, West reportedly knew the combinations to get inside the building and the safe.
The crime was captured on surveillance. Detectives interviewed West, who identified himself in the footage and admitted to the theft; saying he and his friend split the $1,000. Police said he also "walked investigators through the motive, the mechanics of how the crime occurred and how the proceeds were divided between the two suspects."
Authorities also found the stolen safe inside West's home. He is facing a felony charge of burglary.
