ST. REGIS - One man was arrested and another was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a single-vehicle crash that happened on Saturday morning near St. Regis.
Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Zach Rehbein says the wreck happened at around 8 a.m. near exit 33 when a Dodge Neon heading east on Interstate 90 drifted off the freeway and hit a guard rail.
The passenger was trapped inside the car and had to be extricated by the jaws of life.
Both of the men were initially taken to Mineral Community Hospital in Superior, but the passenger was later taken St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula in critical condition.
Law enforcement officers say they found drug paraphernalia inside the car and the driver was arrested for negligent vehicle assault after being released from the hospital.
The driver also had an arrest warrant from Cascade County.
