Today is the first official day to file for the municipal election, and already 2 candidates have filed.
Chris Mehl filed for re-election to city commission and Chris Pope as a new contender for city commission.
Pope is currently a sales associate at ERA landmark.
The deadline to file for the Municipal election June 27.
A primary election will be held only if there is a 7th filing for city commission and a 4th filing for city mayor
Gallatin County Clerk and recorder Charlotte Mills says the election will likely be mail in ballot only- Mills says it saves a significant amount of money.
"It would probably save at least $50,000, Mills said. We have a non-profit permit we use to send the ballots out so we're allowed to send the ballots out very inexpensively. We don't have to train or hire election judges, make arrangements with the polling places and all the individual costs that make the polling places so high..."
Election day is November 5th
