BILLINGS- Miss Montana, or as we know her in the Treasure State, 18-year-old Alexis Wineman of Cut Bank, had a big night in Las Vegas.
The youngest contestant in the 2013 Miss America Pageant made it to the semi-finals (or final 16) of the competition which features 53 participants from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Wineman reached the final sixteen through a fan vote along with Miss Iowa.
Wineman is the first Miss America contestant with Autism to compete in the prestigious pageant.
Montana's second term U.S. Senator Jon Tester released a statement during the pageant.
"Sharla and I join all Montanans in congratulating Alexis and thanking her for her groundbreaking courage. Alexis set out to raise awareness of autism. She made history doing just that while inspiring millions with humor, grace and acceptance. Alexis is an extraordinary representative of Montana and more importantly, the human spirit."
