Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Commissioners approved a plan to purchase medical insurance to cover jail inmates, according to Commissioner Elaine Lux-Burt.
The Anaconda jail can hold about 28 inmates at a time, according to Lux-Burt. Most of the inmates are funded by the state. Anaconda is responsible for an average five inmates per day. The Inmate Medical Excess Program will cost the county 81 cents per day; nearly $1,500 a year.
The county will need to discuss what type of coverage will be purchased, Lux-Burt said. The cost will vary if the county purchases more than basic coverage.
The county will purchase the insurance within the next month.
