FAIRBANKS, AK - A Polson man who is accused of attacking another man in a Fairbanks bar and slitting his throat is now being charged with attempted murder.
Lance Arthur Johnson, 45, was arrested following the early morning assault in a club in Fairbanks on Nov. 10.
Investigators say security cameras show that Johnson walked up to the 37-year-old victim, appeared to give him a hug and then pulled out a knife and cut a 5"-to-6" slice across the younger man's throat.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner is reporting that a grand jury has indicted Johnson on attempted murder charges, as well as first degree felony assault. He was initially facing second degree assault charges.
The victim survived the assault, managing to call for help and identifying Johnson as his attacker before he was hospitalized. Police say he only survived because the slice didn't strike any major arteries.
A pre-trial hearing was set for Jan. 24 in Fairbanks.
