HELENA - More than 140 soldiers of the Montana National Guard will deploy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom on Saturday.
Many of them will have a special Montana activity to take with them overseas. Montana Project Healing Waters is supplying soldiers with several thousand dollars worth of fly-tying accessories.
"I personally have gone through the fly-tying classes...and it give you an outlet to concentrate, to focus on, and yeah, to bring those flies and whatever you do bring home to Montana, to bring that skill back it gives you something to do upon redeployment that is positive," Lt. Col. James Wilkins of the 189th General Aviation Support Battalion said.
More than 150 soldiers from our area have been impacted by this project over the past seven years.
