HELENA - Ronna Sweeney of Columbia Falls traveled to Montana Lottery headquarters in Helena to claim a $50,000 prize on Thursday.
Sweeney purchased her winning "Slingo Trio" Scratch game ticket at Super 1 Foods on 9th Street West in Columbia Falls.
Sweeney said she occasionally picks up Scratch tickets, and on Tuesday night she purchased a few when she bought groceries for her family.
The largest amount she had ever won before was $100, so when she scratched off a $50,000 winner, it came as such a shock that she drove back to the store at 10 p.m. to scan the ticket.
The scanner display read "File Claim," and Thursday morning she traveled to Helena to do just that.
Ronna plans to use her prize money to pay off some bills and to ensure that her children have a particularly good Christmas this year.
