BILLINGS - A St. Xavier woman who is accused of killing her 3-year-old daughter by throwing her from a moving vehicle plans to change her plea in the case.
Mary Leider, 24, will now plead guilty to the crime, according to court documents filed Monday in Billings Federal District Court.
Leider's daughter, Tenielle Big Day, died of blunt-force trauma to the head. Her lifeless body was found on Montana Highway 313 south of Hardin on Dec. 3, 2012.
Leider initially pleaded not guilty and told investigators she did not know what happened to Tenielle after she spent a night of heavy drinking with her brothers.
Investigators say she changed her story several times.
Leider is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court on Wednesday where she is expected to plead guilty without the benefit of any plea agreement.
Federal prosecutors say in court documents that a guilty plea is the most favorable and is the only offer that has been extended to Leider.
She faces the possibility of life in prison and a $250,000 fine.
