Evacuations are in effect in Granite County after a new fire ignited Thursday afternoon.
The Moose Meadow Fire, located 20 miles southeast of Philipsburg in the Moose Meadow area, ignited at around 4 p.m. Thursday, July 25. It is currently 100 acres in size and 0% contained. The fire is located in in steep inaccessible terrain in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest.
The Granite County Sheriff is conducting evacuations in the Moose Lake, and Copper Creek Campground, Frog Pond Basin, Zekes Meadows, and Sagebrush Flats areas.
So far, five hand crews, five helicopters, two air tankers and two dozers are assigned to the blaze.
The fire was started by lightning.
