PHILIPSBURG - Fire officials say that ‘Red Flag' weather conditions have pushed the Moose Meadows fire in a northeasterly direction from Whetstone Lake.
The fire's growth toward the Middle Fork Road and Kaiser Lake has prompted the Granite County Sheriff's Office to issue an evacuation of the residents on the Middle Fork Road south of the junction of Road 5130.
More than thirty residents were asked to evacuate with Public Information Officer Jill Cobb saying that decision was made because of blowing embers a smaller fire started between the hours of midnight and 2 a.m.
Authorities say because of the location of the fire they decided to start evacuating people on Sunday morning. The 30-plus residents were out by noon, although some refused to leave their homes.
A shelter has been set up at the Philipsburg High School. Residents can call (406) 560.1462 for more information.
