More than 50 people arrived at the Park County Courthouse today to show support for former state legislator Joel Boniek who is facing criminal charges. Boniek led authorities on a chase and dodged a roadblock in an attempt to get to his home and animals which were threatened by a grassfire this past July.
At a hearing today, court officials allowed 25 of the supporters into the packed courtroom. The rest milled about in the hallway outside. At the scene, reporter Judy Slate says Boniek asked that charges against him be dropped. The Justice Court Judge declined to order the charges dropped and instead set a trial date of May 10th. We'll have comments from Boniek and some of his supporters tonight at 5:30 and 10pm on KBZK and KXLF-TV.
