It was a rough start for Jeff Mohl at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The opening day of the heptathlon looked promising after the first event but the following three set him back to 15th place overall.
Mohl currently is in second-to-last place with 2,945 points, 500 behind leader Kevin Lazas of meet host Arkansas. After the first event, the 60 meter dash, the Red Lodge, Mont. native was tied for seventh place after clocking in with a season-best time of 7.08. Unfortunately, mediocrity followed in the long jump, shot put and high jump, setting Mohl back to 15th.
His long jump finished at 6.92m (22-08.50), while he finished with 12.05m (39-06.50) in the shot put. He closed down day one with a height of 1.87m (6-01.50), almost seven inches off his best.
The final three events will begin on Saturday, at 9 a.m. (MST) beginning with the 60 hurdles.
