HELENA - The end of tax season is less than two weeks away, and while many are anxiously awaiting refunds, others have yet to file.
For the last week of tax season the Montana Department of Revenue will be expanding the hours at the call center.
From Monday, April 8th, though Friday, April 12th, the staff will be on hand to take calls from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
So far the call center has answered about 44,000 calls regarding tax help and more is expected to come for the final week.
Cathy Fitzgerald of the MT Department of Revenue said, "We find that people are trying to squeeze in getting their tax returns done in the evening or in the morning and this gives them an opportunity to get through to us before they go to work or after they get home from work to get that question answered so they can get on to finish their return."
Fitzgerald also reminds people to file early as the phone lines will be very busy on the April 15th deadline.
Taxpayers who need help filing taxes are encouraged to call the call center toll free at 866-859-2254, or in Helena at 444-6900, or visit the agency's website.
