UPDATE: A woman was rescued from the Jefferson River after being pinned against one of the pillars of a bridge that crosses the river south of Silver Star.
Emergency crews responded to a swift water rescue on the Jefferson River in Madison County about 16 miles south of Whitehall this afternoon.
At around 3:45 p.m., Gallatin County Search and Rescue crews were preparing to respond to the incident to assist Madison County, Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin said. Gallatin County crews are responded with a helicopter and boats.
At around 6 p.m., we received word that the woman had been rescued. The woman was taken to Bozeman Deaconess hospital. She was suffering from hypothermia after spending nearly four and a half hours in the cold water.
