As Montana rings in the New Year, several new laws take effect.

Referendums passed by voters in November include a law requiring teenagers seeking abortions to obtain parental notification. Doctors who provide an abortion without proper notification could now receive a six-month prison sentence.

Also going into effect is a measure that denies state services to undocumented immigrants. That new law is being challenged in court.

Also, Montana's minimum wage will be increased in 2013 to $7.80 an hour, up from $7.65.
