Dennis Michael Fixmer passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013.
Michael was born to Sophie and Melvin Fixmer on April 15, 1942, in Hill City, MN. In 1947, the Fixmer family moved to Bozeman, Montana.
During his early years, Mike built, competed and won many Soap Box races thus starting his lifelong love of cars. During his teens he was heavily involved with boxing where he competed and won a Golden Gloves Championship.
Mike attended Bozeman High School and graduated in 1961. During the next few years he spent time in Hawaii where he trained as a body builder and was nicknamed "The Derrik". Mike returned to Bozeman where he met the woman he would spend the rest of his life with and on April 6, 1968, he married Karen Marie McHenry.
Mike then enrolled at Montana State University where he was a captain in the ROTC and later graduated with a BA in Engineering in 1970. While attending college, he achieved what he would say was his most prized accomplishment; becoming a father.
Mike started his working career at Pioneer in Belgrade where he worked for the next 20 years. After Pioneer, he went to Saudi Arabia where he worked for Arieb Enterprises constructing highways, bridges and tunnels. Mike returned to the states and later worked for the City of Bozeman for 10 years before retiring.
Mike was an avid car enthusiast. He loved everything to do with cars, especially drag racing. In his early years he raced his own cars and won numerous races. Later he enjoyed watching races and turning wrenches on the many cars he owned. Mike was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to spend time in the outdoors with his son and brother.
Michael is survived by his wife, Karen Fixmer; his son, Jerrett (Anita) Fixmer; and daughter, Kristy Michael Fixmer, all of Bozeman, MT. He also is survived by his brother, Gene (Christine) Fixmer of Glendive, MT; his sister, Marilyn Kaauamo of Bozeman, MT; and sister-in-law, Kathy Parent of Phoenix, AZ. Lastly. he is survived by his one and only grandchild, Cole Fixmer of Bozeman, MT.
