Old dynamite blown up at Missoula landfill

MISSOULA - Well that big bang that woke up Missoula this morning?

An explosives team detonated improperly disposed of dynamite that was found at the Missoula landfill.

Usually the team transports the explosives to a county facility, but it was determined that the safest way to dispose of the dynamite was to detonate it on site.

Normally the Missoula County Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team is called on to collect old and unstable dynamite or other explosives that people find in an old barn or garage.

If you find explosives and want to dispose of them the Missoula County Sheriff's Office asks that you call their dispatch center and a team will take care of it for you.
