BOZEMAN - One person was injured in an avalanche on Bridger Peak Tuesday afternoon.

At around 2:45 p.m., Gallatin County Search and Rescue received a call that a skier had been hurt in the avalanche that occurred on Bridger Peak south of Bridger Bowl in the Bridger Mountains. Two off-duty Bridger Bowl ski patrollers were on the scene with the person who was hurt, Gallatin County Sheriff's Office Lt. Jason Jarrett said.

"There were two off-duty ski patrollers from Bridger Bowl on the scene with the person that got hurt. They were able to bring in Summit Air Ambulance. They had a landing zone prepared and all that and it went very well. The person was, from the time of the call until the he was at the hospital, was less than an hour," Jarrett said.

The injured person was taken to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.

"It's a nice, quick rescue for us today and we're happy everybody's out and taken care of," Jarrett said. "It all worked out and everybody is out of the hills that needs to be out of the hills right now."

Jarrett added that it is a dangerous time of year, especially in the backcountry.
