One person dead following reported police stand-off in Townsend

TOWNSEND - One person is dead following a stand-off with police in Townsend.

Initial reports indicate that law enforcement responded to a reported assault at a residence early Thursday.

When they arrived, a shot was fired from inside the residence, resulting in a stand-off lasting several hours.

Shortly after 8:30 a.m., we were told by Broadwater County Undersherriff Wynn Meehan that the suspect is dead.

Meehan says that officers did not fire their weapons, and the death is likely self-inflicted.

We will update you as we learn more.
