A huge turn out for an unusual open house- the new River Rock substation - and the sheriff is doing the cooking.
The substation officially opened about two months ago, but the Sheriff's Department held a free barbecue today to get better acquainted with the community.
Officers served up close to 400 hot dogs and burgers - which didn't last long.
The new facility was open to the public and Sheriff's cars were on the scene for kids to look inside.
Sheriff Brian Gootkin says the new substation will allow officers to better patrol the River Rock community and surrounding areas.
"If we're here, we don't just stop here and go in the office, we drive around this entire area," Gootkin told KBZK. "We'll walk around the lake here and visit with the kids and the families. So presence is everything."
There are also substations in West Yellowstone and Big Sky. Gootkin said they're working on getting one in Three Forks.
